Paul's RV-9A

8 hours: Tail finished, move prep, decals

Tried to install the 45 degree angle on the carb, but it didn't clock to a good position at a resonable torque...tried to force it a bit, then realized I had screwed up the threads on the other side. Upon removal, there was a big strip of metal knocked off the thread hanging off of it.

We re-hit a few rivets in the tailcone, then I spent another few hours trying to finish everything back here...put spi-wrap on wires and static lines, RTV'd to the structure..

Inspection complete aft of the baggage wall.

Tried to put the rear window back on, but the tip-up service bulletin has changed the way the skin lies in this area so it's hard to fit under the skin here now. I tried shaving down the window a bit so it's thinner, which didn't help mmuch. I then loosened the four screws, and was able to install -- may just retighten and leave as-is, though there is some skin distortion.

Lots of clean up...moved wire bundles for wings inside the plane. Also routed a RS-232 line from the GNS-430 to the Dynon for their just-announced HSI software update coming soon.

First attempt at decals in the airplane...no-go. This was a direct toner transfer, I guess it needs a black overcoat.

However, did get some decals on the control stick. Only took 3 attempts for some of them.

Also got one decal on the panel, but the power port decal next to it did not fully adhere. So I removed it with alcohol, which damaged the paint. I think the dissolved decal gets into the texture and leaves a white reside. Will probably have to mask and repaint this area. That's going to be a real pain if I have to do it over by all the switches on the other side of the panel...
